Rod's pictures: June 10 - July 10, 2016

Hi Everybody,

I neglected to include Rod's pictures on my "Backwards Blog".  He has some great ones.  Enjoy!

Enjoying the Dismal Swamp

On the Chesapeake Bay we saw many military ships because we were close to Annapolis, Maryland.

Our boats look very sleek among all the skyscrapers.

My Backwards Blog: July 10 - June 8, 2016

This is one of the 9-11 sites.  Very inspiring.

Newport Yacht Club in New Jersey

I have to apologize.  I have been neglecting an update on my Blog and letting my blog partner, Ann Arzt, keep you informed with her great narrative and pictures.

The highlight of entering the New York Harbor via the Hudson River with the breathtaking view of the Statue of Liberty, has motivated me to do some catching up:  Backwards!!

Coming into the Harbor was a bit intimidating with the boat traffic which included cargo ships, ferries, tour boats, and cruising boats as well as recreational boats that are comfortable zooming around all the traffic.  No wake = just slow down a little.  After rockin' and rollin' we arrived at Newport Yacht Club Marina on the New Jersey side of the Hudson River.

The highlight of our 1st day here:  Meeting Brianna and Jeff Dimond and their beautiful twin girls.  Breezy is my daughter, Rachel's Bestie from Stoughton.  We were able to tour their home - a Brownstone.  Brianna has inherited her mom's decorating skills. Gorgeous!  She also introduced us to Uber.  Rod now has the Uber app. on his phone.  There have been several marinas that offered their service.

The next day in NYC the four of us took the Path train to the World Trade Center where we spent a somber day visiting the 9-11 Memorial Area. They have erected a stunning Memorial and Museum both inside and out.  We came away with a sense of great pride for our country and such respect for all families involved.  We did not take any pictures inside.  The Path train experience was interesting and I wonder how different it is from the subway.

When we cruise fast(about 26 mph) it is called "Going on plane"
                                   Atlantic City

I think this is the marina we stayed at in Atlantic City across from Harrah's. What a difference!
Cruising on Auto Pilot.  Ahhh

For all the Gamblers!  Pretty at night!

Since I am telling my story Backwards, I now take you back to the Atlantic Ocean.  We truly had the weather on our side for the 3 days of Ocean travel.  Although we were on a big body of water, we were able to follow a large portion of the "Jersey Shore".  I never saw so many houses lined up perfectly in a row right on the beach.  This part of our trip also included Atlantic City.  We were at a Marina directly across from Harrah's.  I apologize to all my gambling relatives and friends - no gambling.  We just enjoyed the night music and lights.

I love this picture.  We are constantly trying to figure out where we are. That is part of this adventure.

This is not our boat but these are called Pelican Poles.  Tying up to these requires a tutorial for me each time.

A  TURTLE?

Continuing to go back in time - we spent several days in Cape May on the Delaware River during the 4th of July weekend.  The weather caused us to stay longer than anticipated.  At this point we are on the Delaware River in New Jersey.  Prior to the river we traveled on the Chesapeake Bay staying in towns in Maryland:  Rock Hall, The Solomans and Crisfield.

Continuing back on the Chesapeake we were also in Virginia:  Tangier Island, Onancock, Cape Charles, and Chesapeake. Each of these Marinas/Towns offered a unique view of life on the East Coast.  Tangier Island in Virginia is one example.  It is a popular tourist spot.  The Island appears to be a small crabbing town.  A common mode of transportation - golf carts.  Its history gives it a special flair: fishing shacks, salt marshes, cemetarys  right in your front yard!  Above ground!

One of our favorite rides was the Dismal Swamp Canal in Virginia - very peaceful, very narrow and very beautiful.

We try to take pictures of each bridge of which there have been many.

The East Coast is a sailing coast.

Osprey Nests

Hmmm.  Pretty nice

Storm a brewin' - we have for the most part avoided any big storms.  Hope it continues.

These next few pictures are from Tangier Island; A unique island and experience

This brings me to where I left off in June on my prior blog.  We continue to enjoy new surroundings, experiences and friendly boaters.  Hopefully, our pictures will give a further explanation of our adventure.

Waiting for a kind community member to lend us his car to buy some much needed groceries.

These last pictures are from the beautiful Dismal Swamp in North Carolina.
